High speeds and traffic crashes

On Behalf of | Feb 22, 2022 | Personal Injury

If you encounter a speeding driver on the road, avoiding an accident could become very difficult. At high speeds, drivers are more erratic, and the likelihood of a collision increases. Moreover, these crashes are especially likely to leave those involved with serious injuries or even claim lives.

Sadly, many drivers continue to ignore the speed limit and behave recklessly. Those who drive too fast need to answer for the consequences of their actions.

The consequences of speeding

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that speeding played a role in 26% of all deaths caused by traffic accidents during 2019. When a driver speeds, they have a higher likelihood of losing control of their vehicle, and the chances of the crash causing more severe injuries also increases. Protective equipment becomes less effective at high speeds, and it takes longer for drivers to come to a stop if they are driving too fast.

Risk factors associated with speeding

There are many reasons why drivers speed. Some people have a tendency to drive too fast or disregard traffic safety guidelines and signs. Others become aggressive as a result of traffic congestion or road rage, and they go over the speed limit. Of course, many drivers speed when they are running late for work or worried about missing an important meeting.

Clearly, there are a variety of reasons why drivers speed, but there is no excuse for this dangerous behavior. If a speed-related accident left you or a loved one with a debilitating injury, you need to pursue justice and hold the negligent driver responsible.
