Biography

As a partner at Carey & Stewart, PLLC, P. Zachary Stewart prides himself in providing the highest quality civil and criminal litigation services for residents and visitors of the Ohio Valley.

Mr. Stewart is a native of Weirton, West Virginia. He graduated from Weirton Madonna High School in 2003. He then attended West Virginia University, where he graduated in 2007 as a University Honors Scholar with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. He then furthered his education at Michigan State University College of Law, graduating in 2010. After law school, he moved to Charleston, West Virginia to begin his legal career, where he worked in both state government and for private law firms. 

In 2013, he returned home to Weirton to open his own law office. For the following nine years, Mr. Stewart built a highly-rated law practice and strong reputation amongst the local legal community. Beginning in 2023, Mr. Stewart and attorney James T. Carey merged their solo law offices to form Carey & Stewart, PLLC.

Renowned for his trial advocacy, Mr. Stewart has been named as a Rising Star by Super Lawyers and to the list of Top 40 Under 40 Criminal Defense Lawyers by The National Trial Lawyers. He has been recognized among the Best Attorneys For Client Satisfaction by the American Institute of Criminal Law Attorneys and is rated on Avvo as “Superb” – Avvo’s highest level of ratings. He has handled several high-profile cases that have been featured in local, state, national and international media.

Mr. Stewart has an extensive background in representing criminal clients in both West Virginia and Pennsylvania. He has handled the full spectrum of criminal matters from minor traffic violations to the most serious offenses, including murder. He also has a wealth of knowledge relating to drunk driving (DUI) offenses, especially with drivers who are from out-of-state and those holding a commercial driver’s license (CDL).

Mr. Stewart’s passion is seeking justice for those who have been injured by the negligence or carelessness of others. He has extensive experience in pursuing claims seeking just compensation for clients in a variety of personal injury matters, including car accidents, truck accidents, slip-and-fall accidents, dog bites and sexual assaults.

Mr. Stewart also has unique knowledge concerning overtime and wage violations. He has identified violations and assisted in achieving several six-figure and seven-figure class action settlements against oil and gas industry employers that have disregarded paying their employees overtime according to the Fair Labor Standards Act. He has also litigated similar individual claims on behalf of employees who have been victimized by their employers “wage theft”.

Mr. Stewart is licensed to practice law in the State Courts of West Virginia and Pennsylvania. He is also licensed to practice in the United States Federal Courts for the Northern District of West Virginia and Southern District of West Virginia.
