Rusen

Dana A. Rusen is an associate attorney at Carey & Stewart, PLLC, having joined the firm in 2023. She provides client-focused, zealous representation in a variety of matters, including family law cases such as divorce, child custody, child support and domestic violence protective orders, as well as criminal defense, juvenile delinquency, personal injury and general civil litigation.

Prior to joining the firm, she served as an Assistant Public Defender for the 1st Circuit Public Defender Corporation in Weirton, West Virginia, where she represented criminal defendants and juveniles in both magistrate and circuit courts.

Raised in Shadyside, Ohio, she graduated from Shadyside High School in 2013 and earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Mount Union in 2016, graduating magna cum laude in just three years. During her time there, she was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority and the Pi Sigma Alpha and Alpha Lambda Delta honor societies. She went on to earn her Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Case Western Reserve University in 2019. In the same year, she completed a Master of Laws in International and European Business Law from Comillas Pontifical University in Madrid, Spain, graduating at the top of her class and receiving the Concesión Premio Extraordinario distinction.

While in law school, she gained practical experience with the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office in the Child Support Unit, where she developed experience in calculating child support. She also worked with the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio under District Attorney Justin Herdman. Prior to beginning her legal career, she worked at BELCO Works, Inc., a nonprofit organization in Belmont County, Ohio, assisting individuals with special needs in securing and maintaining employment.

She is licensed to practice law in the state courts of West Virginia, Ohio and New York.
